Soul Care

We hear a lot about self-care these days but not as much about soul care.

Self Care

One of my favorite soul-care activities kicks off each morning when I eagerly head down a woodsy trail with my equally enthusiastic dog, Sadie. On sunny mornings, I love how the shimmering dew nourishes the grass. With each step, I see dew drops twinkle from red to yellow to green to blue, like a disco ball in a dance room.

Likewise, when sunlight flickers through the back woods in late afternoons, a lime green glow softly warms my face, causing my breathing to slow to a calmer pace. In the early evening, peace floods me as the sun fades to the west, casting fainter shades of salmon, melon, and mint. Reflections of my day fade as night dawns. The cricket and tree frog ensemble plays as I climb into bed and wait for the sun’s gleam to beckon me as it rises again.

Thankfully, the sun never stops blazing its rays of light and warmth. Day by day, its ever-shining glory reveals itself to us. What a picture of God’s love through His Son Jesus. More constant than the earth’s sunlight, His light gives life to our souls. His is the ever-changing glory whose light shines in the darkness, providing life to a world that needs Him.

Soul Care

As God’s creation reflects His love and power, chariots of clouds measure His faithfulness. In the same way, the sky beams His boundless love, and magnetic northern lights and twinkling stars reveal His breath. Each season reminds us of the cycle of life and death.

What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

 ~Psalm 8:4 NIV

Daily, God’s magnificent world refreshes our souls and points to the day when heaven and earth will pass away. The knowledge of the one remaining thing will be Himself, the Word.

May God’s creation and word be a part of our daily soul care. Our Creator, our Adonai, knows and fashioned us according to His will. May our spirits run to Him.

Think of ways you can balance caring for your body and soul.

Lord, grant me the balance of life in caring for my body and soul. Thank you for the heavens and earth. Restore to me the wonder of life in You.
